Affordable Private & Small Group Lessons in ESL, Adult Reading & Writing, and Japanese

Hello and Welcome to Ei-Wa International!

EWI founder Aimee Harris
My name is Aimée Harris and I’m the founder of Ei-Wa International.  I specialize in teaching English as a Second Language (ESL), Adult Literacy, and Japanese.  My greatest joy is helping people achieve their language goals.  It would be an honor and a pleasure to help you!

You can learn more about EWI by clicking here.

I got the idea to start Ei-Wa International after my experience as an English teacher in Japan several years ago.  Living overseas really showed me the importance of being able to understand the local language in order to get through day-to-day life.  When I returned to the U.S., I began thinking about all of the non-English speakers living and working in my community, and all of the challenges they must face each day.  I felt inspired to help make life a little easier for non-English speakers by offering an affordable way to improve their English skills.

I think it’s important for me to say that while EWI has a Japanese name, it is open to people of all nationalities!

Because I have two loves – English and Japanese – I founded Ei-Wa International as a way to teach both.  Ei-Wa simply means “English-Japanese.”   The name Ei-Wa International embodies my personal mission to promote a prosperous international relationship between Japan and the U.S. through language study.

Aimée as an ESL Teacher
I am a certified ESL teacher who has worked as an English instructor in Japan.  I have also served as a volunteer ESL teacher in my community.

One of the things that makes me an effective ESL teacher is the fact that I am aware of the many linguistic challenges people face living and working in a foreign country.  Having that sensitivity allows me to relate to my students and understand the unique difficulties they face.

I enjoy teaching English to people of all nationalities; however
my experience studying Japanese gives me a unique advantage
when it comes to teaching English to Japanese nationals.  I am
aware of particular aspects of English that may be especially
challenging for a native Japanese speaker who is learning English.
From my teaching experience in Japan, I’ve discovered that linking
English concepts with Japanese examples can be very effective in
providing clarity and understanding when a student is struggling.

Aimée as an Adult Literacy Teacher
In 2011 I earned my certification in Adult Reading and Writing in order to combat adult illiteracy in my community, and give help and hope to those who struggle with reading and writing.  My strengths when it comes to teaching literacy are my patience and ability to encourage students.  I believe it is never too late for a person to learn how to read.  With dedication and steady effort, it is possible!

Aimée as a Japanese Teacher
I have studied Japanese for over 15 years and have worked as a private tutor for more than six years.  My passion is teaching absolute beginners and self-taught students of all ages.  Through my many years of studying Japanese, plus my experience teaching ESL, I have developed a number of unique and engaging methods to teach Japanese.

Believe it or not, learning Japanese is fun and easy!
